3-ON-3 TOURNAMENTS
Get with your coach or someone with experience in running a tournament. Find an advisor to help you coordinate the event. Your biggest success may be to host an all-day event with basketball and volleyball running simultaneously. You may also choose to have a volleyball tournament one weekend and a basketball tournament the next. Only you can know what works best in your area. There are several options in setting your tournament. You can have one at your school, community-wide, or even area-wide. It depends on what facilities you have available and how much help you can recruit.
CAR WASH
A car wash can be a good solid fund raiser. You can go about it in two ways. One is to charge per car as you wash it. The other is to get pledges for each car you wash prior to the car wash. For example, you may have commitments from 50 people to give you 10 cents for each car you wash. Let’s say you wash 30 cars on the day of the car wash. That means you will get $5.00 per car and $150.00 for the day when you collect on all your commitments.
GARAGE SALE
A garage sale is another good fund raiser. It is a good way to clean out your garage and make money at the same time.
BOARD/CARD GAME TOURNAMENT
Organize a board game or card tournament by inviting family and friends to a convenient, spacious facility. You can charge an entry fee for each participant or ask for donations. Be sure to provide a small prize for the winner(s).
BAKE SALE
A bake sale is another good way to raise money. Recruit as many cooks as you can to bake the goods, and then sell the baked goods to collect your donations.
CHURCH MOVIE NIGHT
Host a church-wide movie night. Ask for donations to support your mission efforts. You may also set up a table to sell refreshments, such as popcorn, soft drinks, and candy.
COLLECTION/LOVE OFFERING
Arrange a meeting with your church minister and share about your upcoming mission opportunity. Express your need for financial help and ask if it would be possible for the church to take up a love offering to help pay for the project costs.
SUNDAY SCHOOL ADOPTION
You may request that several Sunday School classes at your local church “adopt” you to help support your mission efforts. Take some small envelopes and a marker and write the dollar amount and the item needed on the front of the envelope. Distribute to participating classes to let them know what the specific needs are. You might find that people who are hesitant to give money are more likely to help you with a specific item…i.e. film, aspirin, bug spray, baby wipes, shots (listed individually), passport, and batteries. Offer to share your testimony and mission with each class during this process.
OFFER SERVICES or PRODUCTS TO SELL
Use special trades, skills, or talents to raise support. You may choose to make t-shirts, jewelry, key chains, etc. to sell. If you are licensed or certified in a certain job, you may use those skills to promote your fundraising efforts. For example, if you are a massage therapist, let clients know that you are raising money for missions and ask for donations in addition to your services.
